Assistant Professor Position in Experimental Astroparticle Physics and Multi-messenger Astronomy Chiba University

The International Center for Hadron Astrophysics (ICEHAP) at Chiba University invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professorship to promote multi-messenger astronomy realized by high energy neutrinos with associated multi-wavelengths, or gravitational wave observations. The successful candidate is expected to be a leader in promoting multi-messenger observations with the IceCube Neutrino observatory and its future upgrade, the IceCube-Gen2 facility.

ICEHAP at Chiba University is one of the world-leading research groups on high energy neutrino astronomy. Achievements led by ICEHAP include the first discovery of the PeV-energy neutrinos, world-leading cosmic neutrino searches in the ultra-high energy region, discovery of the anti-electron-neutrino induced Glashow resonance, as well as the first identification of an astronomical source emitting ultrahigh-energy neutrinos with IceCube 170922A. Information about the history and scientific results from IceCube can be found at http://www.icehap.chiba-u.jp/en/icecube/index.html . ICEHAP also plays several core roles in the development and production of optical detectors for the on-going IceCube Upgrade, and is currently deeply involved with design of the detector for IceCube-Gen2. Furrther details can be found at http://www.icehap.chiba-u.jp/en/icecube/icecubegen2.html . ICEHAP and Chiba university provide a competitive startup package, computing facilities, and laboratory space for detector development. We are seeking a well-motivated Ph.D physicist/astronomer with a desire to enthusiastically enhance the multi-messenger observations led by IceCube and IceCube-Gen2. Particularly, interests in enhancing the detector performance related to this goal are highly appreciated.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D or equivalent in physics or a closely related field. The review of applications will begin April 18th, 2022, however, applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, Curriculum Vitae, a list of publications, a statement of their research plan, and arrange to have at least two letters of reference sent electronically to:

Citizens of all nations are welcome to apply. Chiba University is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity. We are particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity of our academic community. ICEHAP is committed to promoting cross-disciplinary research of neutrino astronomy and relevant fields in a multi-cultural environment. About half of the researchers in the Division of Neutrino Astronomy are non-Japanese citizen.
